Nick's Journal - Sunday, June 27, 2010

Ok... I've run into a few problems as of late. I tore the speaker socket out of my laptop when I bumped it with my elbow >_<. So my Film Reviews and most other reviews are going to have to be put on hold for now. Good news however. My new gear should be arriving soon and I'll have better sound quality than ever before. I'll also try to do something special to make up for this. Once again, my apologies.

We Got Movie Time! - The Karate Kid (2010)

Well... it was a little too close too midnight for me to post my video and say "I posted it on Saturday". So I just decided to post it today (Sunday) and I have decided to post them all on this day of the week from now on. It's just easier for me this way.

Anyways. The Karate Kid (2010). An ok movie that's not a terrible remake, but... eh. It's got it's strengths and weaknesses and it's nothing really to highlight with a sharpie. But you'll get my full thoughts in this review. I had fun doing this one because I got to look back on one of my favorite movies, and a movie I don't mind.

Nick's Journal - Friday, June 18, 2010

Well. The Super Street Fighter Review won't be shown. I for one am disgusted with the quality of the audio and have no desire to post such a sub-par review. Sorry. Hopefully I can get a Video Game review done sometime though, maybe I'll try an older game... Also. I'm going to be a day late on this weeks movie review of The Karate Kid (2010). Had some trouble, couldn't get too it with enough time. So it's going to be a day late. Sorry, I'll try to avoid this in the future.

We Got Movie Time! - Splice

And here it is. My review of Splice. Ain't got much to say about it as I'll be doing some recording for the Super Street Fighter IV review in a few minutes. But then again. I don't really need too do I? Have a watch and hopefully enjoy the review!

Nick's Journal - Thursday, June 11, 2010

Been about a week since my last journal entry. Namely because there's nothing really major to report. I just finished my review of Splice, should have it up sometime on the 12th. I also went and saw The Karate Kid today... it's not an asstastic movie. I mean not when you compare it to the first The Karate Kid. I guess I'd call it The Karate Kid of today, and it's probably something that the kids of today would appreciate. Hopefully I can get a review of it done by next Friday. Also. I'd still like to have the Super Street Fighter IV review done for this Saturday. But no promises. K?

Nick's Journal - Friday, June 4, 2010

Got the Prince of Persia review done today as you can tell. Pretty good. Could of been better if I'd of planned things out a little more... but anyways that's done, new lessons learned, and it's off to the next project. Still haven't done much with the SSFIV review; but I'd like to get it done by next Friday along with... SPLICE! Yeah. Decided to pass on The Road for a review and go with a film that I thought was going to be crap, but turned out to be good. Nice movie if your looking for something like Species minus the softcore B-Movie porn. Though there is still that in the movie, just not as much. That's all for tonight. Thanks for reading!

We Got Movie Time! - Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Well. I just finished this review up over a long, slow, and frustrating night. But it's done and probably my biggest movie review to date (in terms of time spent making it). But it's over The Prince of Persia, and despite it not being as big as the Pirates and National Treasure movies on it's opening weekend, I still think it's a great movie on par with the quality of movies we've come to expect from Jerry Bruckheimer.

I wish there was more footage of Alfred Molina around, and I wish I had some footage from the Pirates movies as I didn't want to have to do that flipbook segment for Alfred Molina... but I have set a week long deadline for myself with these, so. Eh. It's still damn good IMO. Enjoy!

Nick's Journal - Sunday, May 30, 2010

Almost done with the script for Super Street Fighter IV. Won't be able to do the actual shooting til around this Saturday; but I'll see if I can get what doesn't need to be shot done in the meantime. I also just got back from seeing Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. It was a positive experience and expect my review to reflect that and my own personal satisfaction after watching it. Good movie. That's all for now. Peace.

Nick's Journal - Friday, May 28, 2010

Don't expect me to update this journal EVERYday. Heh. It would be extremely boring to say "done nothing" two too three days straight. As you can see below I finished the MacGruber review. Fuck Adobe Premiere. I'll use it if I have to, but never again am I going to use that to cut and trim my raw footage.

Currently something is wrong with my Current account, and I can't upload jack in this state... so I guess I have room to either A: Watch a movie of my choosing. B: Review a movie I missed. or C: Review a DVD... it's either B or C for me. A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) or The Road...

Got some work done on the SSFIV review. It's shaping up to be my most ambitious game review ever, and I plan to put alot of extra effort into it to make it good. I've also gotten the OK to go ahead with the Blood of the Empire Comovie... so I've got alot of my hands ATM!

We Got Movie Time! - MacGruber

Wow... well. I DID finish MacGruber last night... twice. The first was with my new Adobe program but... fuck me in the ass is that thing a bitch to work with. It takes me 10x as long to do something in that program as it does my old one; and for what? No, I'm going to only use that thing when I need a specific set-up. Til then it can fuck off...

Anyways. The second one was much better and I'm glad I didn't compromise it for this review. Feels like an accomplishment. Anyways... MacGruber. I don't know what I'll be doing next, but if I don't review a movie in theaters; I'd love to take a bite out of The Road.

Nick's Journal - Tuesday, May 25, 2010

No major progress today. I'm struggling with Adobe and how it's different for Sony Movie Studio. Movie Studio has more integrated features, it's more all in one when compared to Adobe who have a different application for every feature. That being said I'm close to putting a gun in my mouth and pulling the trigger in frustration. Still, it's a necessary sacrifice.

I did however play the shit out of Deadly Danger Dungeon today. Fucking hell is that game hard... it's a miracle getting the key and getting back to the start, but it's a complete and total miracle to get past THAT. Closest I've gotten is to through the first door... 1 HP... and I fall in the fucking fire... Bleh. Don't know if I'll be lucky enough to beat it... but I'm sure as hell going to try.

Nick's Journal - Monday, May 24, 2010

Another slow day of progress... but a new day of learning. Just got a huge program that will likely be the new format for all my videos. This will hopefully be the thing that tears down that software barrier before me that keeps me from doing what I want. Had to scrap the MacGruber review since I'm going over to a new format, got the new script done and I think it's better this way. The old script was a little too long and seemed more like a rant than a review... and I honestly don't really give much of a damn about MacGruber, so why I was ranting about it I dunno.

Nick's Journal - Sunday, May 23, 2010

Well as you can see bellow I managed to get two Rotten Tomatoes Show reviews out. Nothing spectacular, but I didn't really get anything else major done today. I cleaned up my studio (my room) and registered with a few sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc. Still working on MacGruber. May get it done by Tuesday. Oh. And I also got my pocketknife from when I joined the NRA. Pretty cool IMO. But that's all for now. Later!

TRTS - Name Your Favorite Movie Adaptation of a Video Game & MacGruber

Well, I was debating about doing it; but I decided to just go ahead and get two quick reviews out. Can't say I'm in love with any of them all that much, the Street Fighter one feels like a rehash of what I already know... but then again it is the truth. But I'm actually fairly impressed at how few takes it took for me to do the MacGruber review. Normally TRTS reviews of movies take me much, much, much longer... Anyways. Here they are for you to enjoy. I'll probably post them up on YouTube next Sunday.

Name Your Favorite Movie Adaptation of a Video Game

MacGruber

Nick's Journal - Saturday, May 22, 2010

Not much done today. I typically spend Saturday with my friends playing Pathfinder so little work get's done on paper. However I've decided to do two reviews for The Rotten Tomatoes Show. One being why Street Fighter (the good one) is my favorite movie adaptation of a game, and a review for MacGruber. Speaking of which... it's going ok. I'm not entirely pleased with the narration so I may redo some parts, which means reorganzing and removing/adding more stuff, which means more time... oh well. Anyways still waiting for word on the Comovie. That aside, nothing else important today.

Nick's Journal - Friday, May 21, 2010

Hello. I settled on one page of my Comovie last night, and I'm currently nosing around to see if it's ok to proceed with the whole project before I do anything else. I play to revoice the page as people have made good points that my voices are too low, and/or the background noises/music are too loud to hear it. So we'll have that.

I'm not going to do the new A Nightmare on Elm Street remake. I'd rather save it for a whole review of the Elm Street franchise... and I just got back from seeing MacGruber. And all I can say is... eh.

It was ok, I honestly enjoyed the skits more than the movie and I'd seriously rate this one fairly low on the SNL Movies Tier List. Still... it's ok... I guess. With a budget of 10,000,000 dollars they're likely going to profit off of this. But I say save your money. I'm going to be working on a review of it after I finish this blog.

I've also begun work on the script and research of Deadly Danger Dungeon. And so far I like what I've got. Don't think it will be done for awhile, but you never know. More later. Have a nice night everyone.

Comovie - Blood of the Empire #1 TEASER

Ok. Part of me REALLY want's to go further with this, but another part of me doesn't as I don't want to make this and have it pulled for copyright. So I decided to do just one page instead of three and use that time to work on a few scripts for some future projects.

Anyways. All voices are done by me... with a few programs to help. The Sith and The Emperor have a few alterations, but the Narrator and the 'Smuggler' are my own voices with a few natural pitch and tone changes. Anyways I hope everyone likes this and if it's ok to do, and it takes off... I may finish the first issue and god willing if it get's bigger and it's still ok. Each issue after that. Enjoy!

Oh. And I'm sorry about the small size, it looks ALOT better with a bigger picture but I want to hold off on posting it on YouTube for awhile as I'd like people to get to know my blog more than my YouTube page. But I'll post it up there eventually. Maybe in the next day or two. This is also my first attempt at voice acting... so forgive me if it seems less than perfect...

Nick's Journal - Thursday, May 20, 2010

Nothing huge accomplished today, just some planning and ping-pong of the mind with an idea... at least not til a little while ago where I began production of the teaser of my first "Comovie". I'm sure there's a better name for it, but it's just what I called them after I made the change to d100 Productions to keep em feeling unique. I plan to do 3 pages as a demo and post them on Star Wars: The Old Republic website to see how well it's recieved. Y'see, the thing is. The last ones were published and sold (or at least are being sold for pre-orders) so I don't really know if I can get away with this as it's one of those copyright problems. Hopefully I can get away with it and it's cool, because so far this is going well and I'm having fun.

I'd about 1/2 way through the first page. So I may be 50% or 75% complete by tomorrow. I'd like to get it finished by Saturday. That's all for today everyone, see ya tomorrow!

Nick's Journal - Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Tied up some loose ends with my Big Angry Nerd account, did some thinking on what to do next... of course there's Super Street Fighter IV, but I've done some game reviews and I'd at least like to get something else finished that I haven't done before I do that. I was thinking of having Settlers of Catan be my first Board Game Review... but after playing Tide of Iron with my friend Mike, and watching some Board James videos with his brother Tommy; I decided I'll review Deadly Danger Dungeon first

What the hell is Deadly Danger Dungeon? It was a flat hand-drawn game that James made with his friends back when they were kids. Just from watching his review of his own game I can tell that it's going to be a hideously unfair game, but I want to see if I can beat it and keep my sanity in the attempt. Watch the original review of Deadly Danger Dungeon HERE and check out the rest of Cinemassacre. James is a hilarious guy.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) is still the movie I'd like to review, but the longer I take the less relevant it get's... so I may just see another movie instead and review that... anyways. First journal for all you viewers, something for you to chew over if interested. Talk to you latter.

(Yes, I know it's the 20th, sometimes I post/write journals a day late)

d100 News - 05/18/2010

Hello, Nick Alstat here formerly known as Big Angry Nerd; why the change in name and site (no longer posting on http://thebigangrynerd.blogspot.com/)? Big Angry Nerd is just too close to the Angry Video Game Nerd by James Rolfe (my hero as you all know) and there are people who won't even give my videos a glance because I'm probably just another "AVGN Rip-off Artist". Well I don't want that. So I just dropped the persona (wasn't really a character, it was pretty much all me anyways) and decided to use my real name Nick Alstat for everything, and just call everything I make a d100 Production. Kind of like Cinemassacre.

Well. The name's changed, but I haven't. I'll still be doing game, movie, and food reviews; and new projects I never got to doing. So keep checking in and subscribe to this blog because I'm starting an Online Journal here in addition to all the stuff I post, and you'll get updates whenever something new appears.

Anyways, bellow is the official production logo and video for d100 Productions. I shot it in an office and I didn't turn off the computer so that's why you hear that humming in the background. This version will likely be changed in the future; but it's fine for now.

Cheetos and Mountain Dew... no Dungeons and Dragons DM screen though, Nexus Games only had a Pathfinder Screen so I got that. I prefer Pathfinder anyways. But the meaning behind d100 Productions is you never really know what the production is going to be like. Good, bad, fair, no real guarantee. No matter how good you are, it all comes down to a roll of the percentile dice...
